SUBJ: CORRECTIVE PROCEEDINGS
Since there have been some questions regarding Corrective Actions (Write Ups), I thought I’d take a moment to review the process.
As you all know from at least orientation, TKS has rules and policies that are required to be followed for safety and for good business. The major rules include:
- SAFETY
Everyone is required to strictly comply with all safety procedures, starting with PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) through to, without limitation Hot Work Procedures. Recall the materials you have reviewed with Ruben, as well as PAI and Fire Walk procedures, and OSHA 10 regs. You also know that Nassco and other companies that TKS works with have their own Safety procedures – with which we also follow and comply.
- BUSINESS
For purposes of work, each employee must have a working cell phone, inclusive of a working email address accessible by your cell phone. If you have any problems, see your supervisor for help. TKS is now sending information by email. If you do not receive such information, not having a working email address will be no excuse. The same applies if you do not have a working cell number.
You are responsible for checking Dispatch, which should be done daily. If it is on Dispatch and you do not comply – there is no excuse.
You must request time off as soon as you know you need it, including, without limitation: court, doctor appointments, DMV, etc. It will not be an excuse if you wait to the last minute.
If you do have any unexpected problem, you know that you have to give as much notice as possible to your supervisor. A day before is preferable, but not less than two hours notice.
///
Each employee should have the supervisory telephone numbers and email addresses in their cellphones:
Jesus Rodriguez, Field Superintendant 619.942.1851
Charles Thomas, Commercial Field Super 619.942.2541
The PREFERRED method is to send an email so there is no question that you timely notified a supervisor.
CORRECTIVE NOTICE PROCESS
If you engage in conduct (action or omission) that is seen as not in compliance with TKS Rules & Policies, you are subject to Corrective Notice proceedings. A statement will be prepared and you will meet with TKS management, generally me. The purpose of the conference is to review the infraction and discuss it, so as to not have a repeat of the problem. You have the right to contest the matter, and to request an appeal, inclusive of writing your position on the back of the Notice.
Infractions have various weights. Safety violations weigh the most, because the health and safety of not only you, but others, are at risk when there are safety violations. Safety violations are the most likely to be subject to suspension, and even termination (depending on the circumstances of the event). THERE IS NO EXCUSE NOT TO STRICTLY FOLLOW SAFETY PROCEDURES.
There is no magic number of Corrective Notices. The purpose is to make better employees through communication/re-training. However, California is a right to work state, and all employees are “At-Will”, meaning the employment relationship may be separated at any time for any reason. There is no, and there has never been, any promise or agreement by TKS to provide any hours to any employee nor to continue any employee’s employment.
TKS does greatly value its employees – y’all almost always go above and beyond in your work ethic and abilities.
If you have any questions regarding any policy or procedure, please do not hesitate to call me and set up a meeting to discuss.
From Mick, Ashley and everyone, thanks to each of you for working to build TKS together.
